REPRESENTATION

ENGAGED
A SHORT ANSWER LOOKS WHOLE
The same question, answered at whatever length the thing in front of them can hold.
01 DEFINITION
Condition in which one question is answered at a length decided by whatever the person happens to be standing near, so the reply carries no sign of having been cut, and a person given the short form has no way to know a longer one existed.
02 CONDITIONS
UNCERTAINTY
MISSING
Nothing in the reply states what was left out or that anything was.
TIME PRESSURE
LOW
Nothing is urgent; the cost is a person who thinks they have the whole of it.
ERROR ASYMMETRY
DEFERRED
Acting on the reduced answer costs nothing until the omitted part is the part that mattered.
OPERATOR STATE
CONCURRENT
The person asked while doing something else and reads what arrives as the answer.
03 WHERE IT APPEARS
MEDICALA result reaches a clinician in full at a workstation and as one line on a device at the bedside.
PUBLIC SERVICEA determination is issued at whatever length the channel allows, and the shortest reads as the whole of it.
FINANCEA position summary arrives complete on one surface and reduced on another with nothing marking the reduction.
LOGISTICSA consignment status is delivered in full to an office and as a fragment to a handheld in the field.
AI EXP.A generated answer is truncated to fit the surface it is delivered on, and truncation is not part of the answer.
EDUCATIONFeedback given at length in one place is delivered as a grade in another, and the grade looks complete.
04 WHAT AEON WORKED THROUGH HERE
The same question reached things that could show a week of detail and things that could show nine characters, and the system chose between them on the person's behalf according to where they were standing. What came back never said it was the short version. The work went into which part of an answer must survive every reduction, and into what the smallest form says about the existence of a larger one.
The question it keeps returning to is how a reduced answer says what it left out — naming the omission on a surface that could not have held it anyway is noise, and saying nothing lets the shortest version pass as the whole of what was known.
