CLASSIFICATION
OBSERVED
ENGAGED
CONFLICTING SIGNAL CLASSING
Two accounts of one thing, and nothing says which is placed to be right.
01 DEFINITION
Condition in which two accounts of the same thing resolve it into different categories, and neither account carries what would say which of them is placed to be right about this particular case.
02 CONDITIONS
UNCERTAINTY
CONFLICTING
Two accounts are present and they say different things about the same case.
TIME PRESSURE
MODERATE
There is room to consider the disagreement, and not room to resolve it properly.
ERROR ASYMMETRY
ASYMMETRIC
Following the wrong account costs differently depending on which one it was.
OPERATOR STATE
DEDICATED
The person is judging this case and is the one the disagreement lands on.
03 WHERE IT APPEARS
MEDICALAn automated read and a clinician's read place one finding in different categories with nothing to arbitrate.
INDUSTRIALTwo instruments on one process report states that cannot both be true, and neither reports its own standing.
MOBILITYSensors of different kinds resolve the same object differently, and the disagreement itself is what reaches the operator.
ENERGYA field reading and a modelled value disagree, and which is authoritative depends on conditions neither states.
LOGISTICSScan data and physical count classify one consignment differently, with no record of which was closer before.
PUBLIC SERVICETwo records of one person resolve an eligibility differently and neither carries its own provenance.
04 WHAT AEON WORKED THROUGH HERE
The ear and the screen did not always say the same thing, and the people who had been doing it longest trusted the ear. That was not superstition — the ear was better at some of it and worse at others, and nothing on the surface said which case this was. The work went into what each account is good for, shown at the moment the two diverge rather than in training.
What stays unresolved is what a surface does when its own sources disagree — showing both hands the disagreement to the operator without handing over what would settle it, and showing one conceals that there was a choice.
